Presenting the challenges that face the South African Pharmacy Council
Abstract
The Pharmacy Council was recently privileged to welcome Dr Gwen Ramokgopa, Deputy Minister of Health, to its July Council meeting. The Deputy Minister spoke of the challenges facing the Ministry of health, making it clear that it would be beneficial to all concerned for a collegial interaction between the Ministry and the statutory councils. She pointed out that it is important that such interaction should focus on protecting public health interests, good governance and accountability through regulatory and policy instruments. In particular, the Ministry’s commitment is to consolidate such partnerships with the Ministry and ensure that its oversight approach is done in a manner that promotes high quality, ethical and professional standards in health.
