Abstract

In September 2012, the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) celebrated its centennial, returning to the country in which it was founded, The Netherlands. On this occasion, the Centennial Congress was held in Amsterdam, and was preceded by two important events, namely a stakeholders’ roundtable event and an invitational ministerial summit. The theme of the Ministers’ Summit, held under the auspices of the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, was “The benefits of responsible use of medicines: setting policies for better and cost-effective healthcare”. The roundtable event was planned as a feeder mechanism to identify discussion points for the invited Ministers of Health to consider.
