Abstract
Concern has been expressed about the shortage of academic pharmacists in South Africa. This research paper describes the factors that attract pharmacists into academia, and the rewards and challenges of an academic pharmacy career. It provides insights into factors which might improve the attraction of academic pharmacy as a career choice and thereby address the shortage issue.
