The Research-Based Pharmaceutical Industry’s Partnership Approach to Helping Achieve the Health-Related Millennium Development Goals
AbstractPoverty and illness go hand-in-hand; health figures therefore prominently in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). It does so most directly in MDG 4) to reduce child mortality, 5) to improve maternal health and 6) to combat HIV/ AIDS, malaria and other diseases. However, attainment of MDG 1) to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, and MDG 7) to ensure environmental sustainability, will also help to improve global health, especially as 7) includes improving access to safe drinking water.
