AbstractUnited South African Pharmacies was founded 12 years ago as an action group of pharmacy owners. Its main focus at the time was to counter the onslaught by medical scheme administrators on the viability of pharmacies. The unlikely leader of this ‘liberation movement’ was a non-pharmacist, successfully retired from business, who was called in by his pharmacist daughter for guidance through this difficult period.
