Quality Control Function of The Analytical Laboratory at The Medical Supply Depot, Auckland Park, Johannesburg
Keywords: Quality Control Functions,
AbstractThe analytical laboratory was founded in the late 1960’s with the express function of ensuring strict quality control on all medicines destined for the Provincial Hospital Services of the then Transvaal. The laboratory’s function remains to ensure that all products that are on Government tender and destined for use in the Provincial Hospitals and clinics in Gauteng, comply with the suppliers’ and manufacturers’ specifications. With the large increase in generic product availability, there is a real and urgent need for the development of a dedicated laboratory that will monitor both State and Private pharmaceutical products. This comment is prompted by the fact that while some companies produce dedicated batches for state issue only, most generic pharmaceutical companies supply both the private and public sectors with the same batches of medicine.
